I had a good experience buying a new battery for my X24 from eBay. I bought an OEM battery, which cost another few dollars but shipped from the USA and gave a little extra peace of mind.

i have other laptops but i'll be honest i never use 'em

I just purchased an X31 battery from ebay... for experimental purposes. The battery I got was original IBM, used, with 64 charge cycles on it. It cost me $20 total. Actually, the battery is in pretty good shape metering out at about 4 hrs run time. I won't be taking this one apart for a while!

Right now, it seems the vendor has a few more X31 batts available, but his BIN price is quite a bit higher than what I just paid in an active bid.

eBay seller pcsurplusonline.com

Good luck.

I bought one in HK today from www.batterycollection.com, they have a few retail shops as well as the online outlet.

I was going to buy from another online retailer but a friend recommended this company. I did pay a little more than the bucket shops but the warranty was only three months compared to a year.

Battery fits fine, price was OK. I'll post in a day or two after testing.

i can't find any new OEM battery on ebay.
so i reckon there is only one option is to buy generic Hk battery.
How about refilled battery?

Send them your dead battery so they refill it and it's ~$50.

Dumb question... How do you know how many cycles your battery has been used?... Is it some special software? Please let me know how I can check out my batteries.. I am very curious now!

thanks,

Dave

Bumping this question to ask. The software I use on the T61p that tells you battery info doesn't seem to work on the X31.

To answer scout233 even though it's been a couple of months... IBM's Battery MaxiMiser is the program which is normally supplied with your system that can tell you the number of charge cycles it has been through.

flypenfly: Is this the program/utility you are talking about on your X31?

I don't know if there is any interest in this topic anymore, but I purchased an OEM battery from batteriesplus.com. I've been quite happy with it. I get about 4 hours on a full charge.

There is an auction about to sell a genuine battery with 15 minutes of life if you want to use it for new cells. It's certainly cheap enough too, plus I believe the higher capacity cells are much cheaper now.
