IDE to USB converter

will i be able to boot from cd with this?

im planning on installing windows and formatting my hard drive on my X30. can i use this adaptor with a cd drive and be able to boot from it? thanks for the info

No reason why it shouldn't, provided it isn't defective.
It would be more reassuring if the seller knew how to spell "adapter" properly!!
(He spelled it "Adatper" and he had tons of them listed that way)!!!

Anyhow, I might get one also, but...
Keep in mind, for his $15 shipping charge plus the item, you can buy most of a complete USB2 5 1/4" enclosure.

I think I am going to revise my answer:

newegg.com has several of these devices listed under "Adapters" (at least they know how to spell it!!) <grin>

Yes, it SHOULD work, but....

Frankly, it looks so "Mickey Mouse" that I would simply spend the extra $20 or so and get a 5 1/4" IDE to USB 2.0 complete enclosure.

Basically this device is an enclosure without the enclosure, and I just wouldn't trust it.

FRY's has complete enclosures the $50 to $60 range. Newegg has tons of them also.

yeah i was thinking it was just the enclosure with just the conncting part. thats all i really need. im not gonna be taking it around or anything i just need something to back up my stuff to and boot off cd.

Well, I just checked newegg, and they have full enclosures for around $30 and up with around $5 FEDEX shipping.
