prepping x40 for resale w/ out CD drive or install discs

#1 Post by srpamon » Tue Mar 25, 2008 3:59 am

i sold my x40 on ebay and now am prepping it for shipping. Can the rapid restore feature essentially reinstall XP on the X40 and then be ready to go for the new buyer? I don't have the install discs as they weren't ever supplied and the unit doesn't include the cd drive as I didn't choose that option..

I'm looking to just wipe my personal info off of it and ship it off...

Any help greatly appreciated for a first time poster...:) Thanks

there are some programs to do this, 'Eraser' or something like that. When I bought my X41 found original windows, clean hard drive and this program installed :). I bet original user account was also Erased, and new user 'X41' with no password was left for me.

If you have the factory preload OS you should be able to restore from the restore partition and that should remove all of your personal info and restore to a new, clean windows install. Press the "Thinkvantage" button when you see the IBM logo during startup, select "Restore to factory contents".
