X30/X31/X32 eBay 6600mah Extended Battery

#1 Post by bigdoofus » Wed Mar 26, 2008 4:23 pm

I found a seller on eBay selling what appears to be custom 6600mah batteries for the X30 series ThinkPads. I ordered it and got it pretty quickly. It is Made in China and so far it seems to be equal to its 6600mah rating. In some quick testing, I got 5 hours of battery life in normal usage.

It looks larger than the normal one. Does it stick out the front?

It does stick out the front about an inch or so.

I like the capacity, but I do not like spoiling the sleek lines of my X31.

I still get nearly four hours from the standard battery, even though it has lost nearly a quarter of its capacity.

Do you know what the highest after-market or OEM standard battery I can get for my X31?

Cheers

Interesting. Would you mind snapping a few pics of it installed?

If anyone know where to get a standard 4400mAh X30 battery I'd appreciate a tip. Not interested in waiting a couple of weeks for batteryrefill.com.

It's like having an extended palm rest :). One downside I see is that every time that you put the machine in an X3 ultrabase you have to remove the battery.

Good point on the Ultrabase. I don't have one so I forgot about that, but yeah, it wouldn't fit with an Ultrabase.

Also I'm not sure if the stress of the extra weight is good for the retaining mechanism. But I certainly like the battery life.

The X30 series has two OEM batteries.

The normal-sized one has a maximum of 4400mAh in both OEM and after-market versions.

IBM also sold an extended battery which uses the dock connector and sticks out the back. That one I believe also had a 4400mAh capacity.

This one is fairly unique in the fact it doesn't replicate any OEM designed battery. It also has the highest rating at 6600mAh which is 50% more than the stock.

Thanks for the Hammerhead link. I was at their website earlier today and saw some more of them. The problem I have with the batteries is there is no guarantee of charge. In all of their battery auctions (that I could find) I see words to the effect of "This is a used battery but we guarantee our batteries to hold a good charge (1.5 - 2 hours) or we will refund or replace the battery. " I see no such words in the X30 battery auction, and I have to ask myself why?
Here's a typical Hammerhead battery auction..
You could assume from the lack of this wording in the X30 auction that;
1.) These batteries are really marginal and as such there is no way to reasonably give a 'holds good charge' guarantee.
2.) Hammerhead has not tested them in an actual X30 or X31 therefore can't make such a guarantee.

I see they have 100% feedback and I suppose I could go on faith here...are they that good?
