Replace Hard Drive on X30

#1 Post by kcgold » Fri Mar 28, 2008 2:09 am

I have an x30 that I need to change the hard drive. Is there a way to copy the hidden header and a mirror of the data to a new drive? I have Ghost 14.0 but I do not know how to copy the entire drive. Is the $45 CD from Lenovo the only answer?

The last question, I purchased a PATA hard drive but it is 160 gig. Is this too big for this old system? The box says it needs a 40 bit bios to work correctly.

I just upgraded the memory to the max of 1 meg, just before the hard disk showed problems, and what a difference. Everything is so much faster. A great little referb from IBM but the lack of online support, now it’s out of warrantee, is distressing.

Welcome to the forum!

Your new HDD will work in the X30, no problems there.

Please use the "search" function to find answers on "ghosting" the HDD, that isssue has been discussed throroughly on the forum.

In most cases, your machine needs to be under warranty for you to be able to buy recovery disks from IBM/Lenovo, but if you post a WTB ad in the marketplace here, I'm certain that someone cab help you out.

Good luck.
