Question re: upgrading hard drive in X31

#1 Post by dc_slim » Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:27 am

Since I'm pretty tech illiterate, can someone please tell me what type of hard drive interface is in my X31? Is it ATA-6, SATA, or PATA? I need to upgrade the hard drive and want to make sure I order the right one.

Also, can anyone confirm that a 200gb drive will work in this machine? I assume the bios will recognize it, but it's always good to double-check.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

ATA-6=IDE=PATA and works in your machine.

SATA is a no-go.

Your X31 will take the largest drive of the former kind, which is presently 250Gb.

Enjoy.

So I can use any drive that's labeled ATA-6 *or* PATA?

Yes, as long as it's 9.5mm form factor, which all of the newer ones are.

I would highly suggest a 7200 RPM drive, regardless of the capacity you chose. The higher RPM will give very pleasant boost to your X31.

I second syedj's opinion, but these are getting very difficult to find at reasonable prices...
