X24 Rebooting / shutdown issue

#1 Post by TdiGuy » Sat Apr 05, 2008 4:31 pm

I have a x24 and i have a odd problem. It seems to randomly shut off and sometimes goes into a constant reboot cycle. I called lenovo support but they were about as useless as could be. The term random seems to be very foreign to them. I have installed a temperature monitor program so i can check out how hot the computer is and it usually does not go much above 60c so i am fairly confident it is not a heat issue. This is also something that happened one day after i left the notebook running all nite.

I think i have managed to find my problem. It seems my battery has gone defective or at least the smart chip in the battery. I have left the computer on now for far longer then it normally would stay on without a battery in it relying just on outlet power and so far no problem. Anyone know where i can get a good reliable battery for cheap or at least under 100$

Well my degree in electronics and years of troubleshooting has helped me out once again. Wish i had spent more time yesturday troubleshooting this computer but i have found a REALLY simple problem on my X24. That tiny witch used to tell if the lid is closed has become flaky or at least contaminated with dirt. Wish i had not have ordered another battery because i was able to correct this problem by spraying some electronics cleaner (from a autoparts store lol) into it and now the computer operates rock solid shutting off and turning on exactly as it should rather then sometimes not turning on shutting off abruptly and cycle booting. I knew i should have spend more time on it before ordering parts lol now i have a new CPU fan comeing to me and a new battery.

I remember recently there was another case on the forum that the owner's F3 key (which is also the monitor-off function key) got stuck so everytime he turned the computer on the LCD will shut itself off after two seconds. Sometimes the cause is just too simple to be noticed, especially for electronics(narrow fault tolerance).
