Can I upgrade the X31 CPU to a Pentium M 740?

#1 Post by iamdmc » Mon Apr 07, 2008 10:43 pm

I have a X31 with 1.4GHz Pentium M, 1MB L2 cache. I'm wondering - can I upgrade this to a Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz, 2MB L2 cache) and is it worth the $30 upgrade fee?

P.S. Mods: I have posted this in T4x series as well, because I'm not sure which of the two laptops (X31 or T41) I can and should install this processor upgrade into.

yes, the 9mm SSD fits in the X220

Dang... I thought that was only the X40-X60 series...

Alright, thanks :)

No more replies necessary, unless someone has an X31 board where the CPU is not soldered in ;)

If you wanted a faster processor, you could always swap out your motherboard for a better one. Some X31 machines came with 1.6 and 1.7 processors. An X32 board might even fit as well, if you can find one.

BTW, the processor you mentioned uses a 533mhz FSB, which means that it won't work (at the correct speed) in your T41. You'll need a 400mhz FSB chip for it.

It would work, but not at the correct speed. It would be underclocked to about 1.3ghz.
