General Spec of X series thinkpads; X32 compared with X31

#1 Post by jkn » Tue Apr 08, 2008 4:53 pm

Hi all
I'm a happy user of Thinkpads (T20 and T42p) and I'm thinking of getting a sub-laptop for travel purposes. I will be running Linux (mainly) but will dual-boot XP on occasion.

I'm thinking of either an X31 or X32. The X31 seems much more available (I'm in the UK) and the X32's I've seen are quite a lot more expensive. The specs look not dissimilar; can you give me a better idea of what I get with the X32 that's more useful that the X31 (aka: what makes it worth the extra money?).

I will be mostly using it for development work, editing & compiling etc. Wireless connectivity is important, as is physical connectivity. I know I need a dock to get real serial capability, for instance.

Thanks for your thoughts.

This has been discussed a few times, do a search.

Anyhow, the main difference is the Dothan CPU in the X32. Usually this makes very little difference, unless you happen to find a 2ghz X32 (which is a big difference).
