X30 and the 0190 critical battery error.

#1 Post by adrianaitken » Fri Apr 11, 2008 2:30 pm

Got it, swapped the little yellow covered CMOS battery and still get the message.
Any other solutions that people know of ?

According to thinkpad's numeric error codes lookup, you're either required to charge or replace the battery pack and not the backup battery (a.k.a CMOS battery).

Hi ryengineer,
Yes, I'd read that on their website as well but not only do I have the normal battery installed but I have the external one that tilts the laptop at at angle. If I only use either of them then I get the same message which would imply that both batteries simultaneously died or something in the laptop itself has smoked.

Could someone try something for me please, if you have no battery attached does your X30 run off the mains adapter alone - mine doesn't but I'd like to see if this is normal.

Your machine should run with no battery installed, no questions asked.

My assumption is that your motherboard has gone bad, and I'm about 95% sure of that. I've never had that issue on a X30, but have seen it a zillion times on A31 machines, and every time motherboard replacement was required.

Good luck.

Looks like it was the power adapter that went kaput. I used another one and I'm getting power !!!
Bad news is I'm now getting the 1802 invalid network card message although I'd already run the fudge-it program to fix it. Looks like removing the CMOS battery resets it back to to the official way of doing things :(
Now I just need to remember where I got the program from and how to run it !!!

Great news! Far better than new mobo...

There's a link to no-1802 program at the top of one of the forums.

Good luck.
