Administrator Password for Client Security Setup x41 2525

#1 Post by schoolstar » Tue Apr 15, 2008 10:34 am

Ok, so this is probably a ridiculously easy question, but where do I find the Administrator Password or Phrase for Client Security Setup Wizard (for the embedded security chip) on my new(ish) X41 2525?

I flipped though the manual, but didn't see anything, did a quick Internet search, and have contacted Levino but no juice yet.

Got the computer in the U.S. but I'm in school in England.

It doesn't come with a password - It is whatever you or the previous owner set it to. Try the password for any Administrator accounts on your machine, try blank (don't enter anything, just press enter), try all your usual suspects.

If none of that works you may have a problem.

Reset Security Keys in Bios, Wizard won't complete, HD space

#3 Post by schoolstar » Wed Apr 16, 2008 2:29 am

I'm the first owner of this computer and was pretty confused about why it was asking me for a password, but I decided just to take a deep breath and reset the security keys (messing around in the bios is scary for me) and go from there.

Got back into windows and the wizard asked me to set a password etc, but when it got to "configuring-- this may take serveral minutes" and reached "creating system keys" it stopped there. My computer wasn't locked up, but I left it running and went to bed and it was still doing its thing (without progress) in the morning.

I think this is probably how I ended up with it asking for a password -- it may have crashed on me before like this and I forgot about it.

The bigger issue is this: I have a 33 GB HD, according to the freeware program treesize I am using 14 GB, but my system (and treesize) say I have 1 GB free. The only two folders that treesize lists but "access is denied" are system volume information and RRbackups. I thought this might be related, but I'm trying to figure out how to purge my backups. The problem is that Rescue and Recovery keeps closing itself on me. I did get far enough in to see that it admitted to using 19 GB for backups, but I'm not sure what to do from here.

Given the issues you are having this might not be the best time to purge your backups...

If it was me, I would go out and get a 160 GB notebook drive, then pick up an ultrabay slim adapter for it. Then I'd buy a copy of True Image, and use it to move everything over to the new disk (including the service partition). Then I's swap the new drive into the primary HDD slot and try it again.

That's just me...
