X40 powered USB port for ...?

#1 Post by rlc5 » Sat Dec 11, 2004 6:36 am

So, now I have my X40. It's a very good little machine. But I never really researched what the powered usb port was good for besides the proprietary external drive. Is there some way to connect it to an ipod so that it acts like a powered firewire port? How might it best be used?

Currently, it is only used for the IBM multiburner USB drive. It only supplies power, no signal.

You can buy the cable from IBM for around $20 and it provides 16V, which is ideal for the iPod. I have the cable, but haven't tried to get it to charge the iPod yet.

Had a look around the ibm.com site but couldn't find this listed. Do you have a link, tsammyc? I'd like to get this if it's available.

I must be the only one who can't navigate the IBM site properly. I enter that FRU in the parts lookup and I get nothing.

Thanks, eriqesque. I did find it eventually by doing a wider search at the site.
