Consistent hang on shutdown for program ACardBackground

#1 Post by Norman » Mon May 12, 2008 1:51 pm

My X31 has displayed a strange on shutdown that I've never been able to figure out.

It says that program called ACardBackground cannot be shutdown, and I need to click the "End Now" button in order to proceed with the shutdown. This is rather annoying, and I have no idea what's going on with it.

According to my google search, ACardBackground is part of the Rescue and Recovery software from IBM/Lenovo. But I have found NOTHING regarding how to fix it.

Anybody want to help me out?

Never heard of it and Google doesn't have too many hits on it either. I searched on my X31 and can't find anything on C:, or in the registry.

If it's asking to be killed at shutdown, then it means it's probably being started up. Have you checked msconfig Startup tab to see if there is a call for ACardBackground to be started. If there is an entry in the Startup tab list, uncheck it to see if it helps.

By the way, in case you don't know... Go to Start/Run, type in msconfig, then go to the Startup tab.

Thanks for the tip. I know that ACardBackground is involved in the Rescue and Recovery Program, I found this out from one of the sites that tells you what various exec files do in the background of your computer.

I checked the msconfig Startup tab and found no entry for ACardBackground, so unfortunately that will not work.

Perhaps you are using a newer version of R&R? I thought today that might be the case, and I tried to install the newest version of R&R (4.2). Now I have run into another problem...

I have to uninstall R&R 3.01.0037 in order to get 4.2, but I have no installation source to uninstall from, or so Windows says. I've browsed my files and cannot find a suitable source, so I'm stuck. Any suggestions? Should I start a new post for this?
