X41 Tablet poor battery life?

#1 Post by mtbiac » Sat Jun 21, 2008 8:59 am

I just bought a used X41 Tablet. With the LCD brightness turned down and wifi on, I am getting only 4hrs on an brand new 8 cell extended battery. Is this normal? EVerything I had read prior to purchasing this stated most peple got 6hrs+ during normal usage. I just reset the battery, and still the same thing. I uninstalled all the useless programs it came with from the factory, etc, and still nothing has changed.

is this normal? I bought this mainly for the long battery life, or so I thoguht.

any help much appreciated!

Best,
Mike

My X41 (model 2525-E2U, non-tablet), 8 cell battery consistently provides 3.5 hours (full performance settings, with Verizon Broadband pc card, max screen, 1.5G ram, 60GB drive).
I keep an extra battery, and, am very pleased with this toy.

For what it's worth, I had an 8-cell battery that sat around mostly unused for about a year. When I finally started to use it I also got less than 4 hours per charge (dim screen, wifi off).

darn, so that's normal? I thought they were supposed to get 6+ hrs?

do the X40 and X31 get 6+ hrs with the 8cell?

thanks

You're mixing up apples and oranges here. X31 and X40 do not exist as tablets.

X41T has a faster (and hotter) 533Mhz FSB, not to mention IPS FlexView LCD. All of this sucks power.

You should be pleased with what you're getting IMHO. My X60T doesn't do much better than that.

good point. I guess it is pretty good

In contrast, if I were to downgrade from tablet to non-tablet, what kind of battery life would I get with an X31 or X40? which would be better for battery life?

thanks!

X40 has better battery life, but is maimed by slow 1.8" 4200rpm HDD.

X31 is much more upgradeable, and more of "all-in-one" machine IMHO.

Go with X31 if it's going to be your only machine, with X40 if you're looking for strictly "on the go" unit.

My $0.02 only.

well this is def. an "on the go" only machine, as I use the T61 in my sig for every day tasks. I actually think I am going to keep the tablet, as I had forgotten its amazing usefulness as a document reader while in vertical tablet mode. I guess I can sacrifice an hour or 2 on battery life for these tablet features. And the screen IS simply gorgeous, much nicer than my T61 even. Even though I can carry around my extra 8 cell for around 7hrs total battery, it is heavy with all these extra cells....

My X41T has 400 fsb, but the chipset eats more power that 855 used to in X40. Lasts 1h on used 4cell..

Can you post the model number for your machine, since that would be the only X41T running with 400Mhz FSB that I've heard of...

What about the battery life pdf from IBM? It clearly states a batterymark test of 6:36...
ThinkPad X Series System conditions
ThinkPad X41 Tablet (M/T 1866-6SJ)
Time: 6:36
Intel - Dothan-LV at 1.5GHz
2MB L2 cache
512MB base memory
12.1 TFT LCD LCD display
Foxconn BMDC3 Modem
HDD: HGST Travelstar 60GB, Format: NTFS
Transfer mode: Ultra-DMA100
IDE controller: Intel ICH-6M IDE controller
Li-Ion Prismatic Battery Pack (8cell : 14.4V / 1.9Ah/2.6Ah) P/N: Lenovo P/N :92P1085
Manufacturer: Sanyo
Intel Alviso-GM graphic chip 128MB UMA
Display driver: 70D113WW (70D113WW)
Resolution: 1024x768 pixel, 32bit color color, 50Hz refresh
Operating system: Windows XP TabletEdition2005 JP with ServicePack: SP2, DirectX: 12
So you would think that, at least under some conditions, it should be able to make it to 5 or nearly 6 hours on a charge, with a brand new battery...

Hi, my tablet is currently under reconstruction, trying to install winxp tablet pc to it, trying hard, so I cant post cpuz or everest sceenie :). For now, this is intels specification of a P-M LV 778 1.6GHz CPU:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL8QF
...and x41t specs from newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 834146156R
There are many tablets with 1.5Ghz Pentium M 758, there is no valid multiplier for such frequency with 533MHz fsb (133 MHz reference clock). Only thing, that has 533Mhz clock in the rig is the DDRII memory.
