Waiting for a new X31 to arrive from IBM!!!!!

Hello, my soon to be fellow thinkpad users.

I am waiting for my new X31 (2885PWU) to arrive here either today or on Monday.
I am really excited about this machine, and I plan on making it my primary laptop (I am getting a T20 and a T23 for backup).

Is there anything I should watch out for? Care to share your experiences as new owners?

One thing I'm a little bit suspicious of is that when I placed an order on this X31 model it showed an availability of 2 weeks, and I was said it would ship around the 30th. It shipped on the 17th, and the model still doesn't appear to be in stock in IBM's website. Am I getting a return or a refurb? Is there anything to worry about? Do I need to proceed taking my medication for paranoia? What gives?

Thinker... have fun with your new X31. I got a recert/refurb X31 from an EBay dealer about a week ago. It looks and feels practically brand new. I upgraded it to 768 MB ram and a 60 GB 5400 rpm hard drive.

I don't know if I'd worry about the shipping dates. I tried ordering an Apple over the summer. Forget that: ship and build dates were an episode out of Mars. So, who knows what is said and why. You'd figure if the couriers can get this right that the computer companies could figure out how to get it right for their own products.

My only complaint is that I hear a high pitched whine. I can't recall hearing it when I first got the machine and I've only noticed it two days ago several days after I already did the upgrades. Let me know if you hear the same thing.

Would not worry about getting a returned or refurbed machine if you ordered a new one.
Also IBM's ship dates are always way off on machines. They almost always ship sooner.
