Installing XP on X31

I have just got myself an X31 and faced the usual problem of how to load up an OS without a docking station. I don't have a USB CD drive. I do have a PCMCIA CD drive but the X31 wouldn't recognise it on booting.

The solution -- may be familiar to others but it surprised me -- was to use a CD drive from a desktop machine with an IDE to USB converter. The X31 recognised it straight off and XP is installing as I write.

Isn't technology wonderful -- when it works!
