X41 Tablet Screen keeps shutting off when watching Movies

#1 Post by mtbiac » Tue Jul 01, 2008 3:59 pm

I dont know if this is a problem with Windows XP Tablet edition or my X41 Tablet, but everytime I'm watching a movie or video, the screen will go black after either a few min on battery or 20-25min when plugged in. I tried adjusting the settings for when to turn off the screen on both battery and power, and disabled screen saver but I still have the problem. I've tried using windows media player and VLC and have the same problem. Is there some BIOS setting or something along those lines that I am missing? I've been searching and playing with this thing for a while to try and figure out the problem but cant seem to get it! For the record, I've never had this problem on any other laptop with any operating system (or atleast I was able to fix it easily).

Thanks for the help!

I don't know if you are using the Lenovo battery maximizer or just the native Windows power profiles, and I forget how they interact if you use both. I use only the native Windows power management and my tablet blanks the screen after an interval that's controlled by the Windows power management settings.

Try changing the Windows power profile. Either click on the Windows battery symbol in the system tray or go to the Power Settings in Control Panel and choose the setting that prevents screen blanking. My tablet is at work so I can't look up the precise wording, but it's something like "Presentation" or the like. If set in this mode the screen should not blank.

If you have ThinkVantage Power Manager installed, press Fn-F3 and choose "Video Playback".

Remember to switch back to whatever profile you use normally afterwards.
