reliable battery source

#1 Post by gongo2k1 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 2:54 pm

i have a x41 non-tablet and am looking to buy a smaller 4 cell battery (the kind that doesn't stick out at all).

is there a reliable place you guys can recommend to buy from? i'm a little leery of ebay sellers from china, it seems to be hit-or-miss.

i'm using the x41 on the train most of the time, so i don't necessarily need the added weight and size of the extended battery.

thanks.

The only real place to get anything decent is http://www.batteryrefill.com/. They usually have batteries they have refilled themselves for most laptops, although it will run about $100 depending on the model.

Edit:
Link was wrong (batteryspace.com), fixed it to be proper.

I looked in their laptop batteries section and didn't see any batteries. Only external battery packs and AC adapters. Am I looking in the wrong area?

Yeah, that was my bad, ignore that link...I've been dealing with the tiny cells too much and meant to post THIS link:
http://www.batteryrefill.com/

and here's the X41:

Sorry about that

You can get original batteries, but lithiums age like milk and don't have a great shelf life.

that's pretty good price on the refill, but purchase price is killer!

the refill price is reasonable, unfortunately the new battery price is a bit steep for my taste...

Is the X41 different from the X40? There are some inexpensive 'genuine' batteries for the latter at overstock.com.

they're compatible. i picked up a 4 cell 1.9ah x40 battery for $47 shipped from overstock, it works perfectly with my x41.

I finally ended up getting a replacement battery new from BatteriesPlus for my wife's T23. It is new, fresh, has a one year warranty, and so far is working excellently. I have ordered a few from ebay that turned out to be quite old, and sometimes, not as unused as claimed, so I decided to go with someone who has stores, in case I need to bring it back I would be face to face with the "seller". I also did a search for batteriesplus coupon codes, and got $10 off the sale price. It is a Rayovac, not IBM but again, since it is warrantied and BP has been around for a long while, I thought risk was low.

Also, I spoke with batteryrefill, but they were backlogged 6 weeks at the time for T2* batteries.

I also got an x40 battery from overstock, works great. I don't know the mfgr date but it's branded lenovo unlike my original ibm branded one, so that suggests that the cells are newer and the battery hasn't been sitting on a shelf for years and years.

i wish i could say the same about mine... the battery i got off of overstock was manufactured in 2006... but it's still in good condition, keeping about 93% of it's designed capacity, so i'm not worried. i mostly use this battery when i'm plugged in on the train, so i'm not as concerned with battery life as i am with the actual weight. i have an extended battery that i use when i need battery life.

I don't know how to find the mfgr date of the battery I got from overstock, but 2006 isn't so bad, the x40 was originally made in 2003 and there's a chance that ibm branded batteries are that old.
