x41 tablet - gigabit only connects at 100mbps?

#1 Post by talz13 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:14 am

I just tried connecting my x41 tablet to my new gigabit switch with some fresh cat 6 cabling, but it only shows a connection of 100mbps! When the cable is unplugged, task manager shows a non-active 1Gbps connection, so it evidently is a gigabit card... What might be wrong with this?

Some gigabit switches drop in to 10/100 mode when they detect that's what's connected to them. Try hooking only your laptop to the switch.
Lenovo X240: 2.1GHz i7 - 8GB - 120GB SSD - 1080p IPS - Win7
Lenovo T400: 2.53GHz - 4GB - 320GB & 100GB - Win7
IBM X60t: 1.83GHz - 2GB - 80GB - 1400x1050 - Win7

I can try that, but the rest of the ports that have stuff plugged in are registering correctly (i.e. they connect at gigabit, and the little gigabit light is lit up) aside from the laptop

It's not a generic issue with the X41T - mine works fine with a gigabit switch; not only does the gigabit indicator on the switch work but the data transfer rate across the network is almost 200 Mbps (limited by the 23 MB/s hard disk transfer rate), so things do work.

Try a different cable?

Could you try looking at the gigabit card in device manager and tell me what it has under Advanced -> Speed & Duplex? Mine has 10 half/full duplex, 100 half/full duplex, and auto, no 1000 explicitly there.

talz13:

I have the exact same choices under Advanced > Speed & Duplex. There are no choices listed for 1000 Mbps.

My driver is the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver, version 9.25.0.0 dated 3/9/2006. I see that the driver available from Lenovo is currently 10.35.0.0, but I didn't upgrade to that version since the description said that the only changes were to add support for ThinkPad R61, R61e and R61i models. Broadcom's web site lists the latest driver as 10.78.0.0, so you might try one of these if you have an older driver version.

I just tried my pc on the switch the other day, and it, too, was connecting at 100mbps. I switched the cable over to another port and it was gigabit. I assume this is the same problem I was having with the thinkpad. Guess I might have to RMA the switch!
