Defective Replacement Battery???

#1 Post by mkehl » Sat Jul 12, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi all, Just received a replacement battery for my X41T. The problem is that it won't charge. It charges up to 34% or 21.2 watt hours, and the it just stops charging. Power manager shows the condition as "good." If you unplug the laptop from the mains at this point it just turns off--there is no power to run it from the battery whatsoever. I've tried unplugging and reinserting it, cleaning contacts, reinstalling power manager, charging with computer off, etc.... Also, the laptop will still charge the old battery perfectly all day long. It is a genuine IBM battery, although purchased from a distributor and not directly from Lenovo. The electronic date stamp on is shows it was manufactured on October 2005, does this mean it's probably sat long enough to become a paper weight? If there are any other suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
ps. i don't have access to another power supply or x-41 to test.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum!

Most possibly one of the cells is dead. See if you can return it and get another one.

I have used T23 batteries that have sat in thier sealed boxes for 5+ years and they work great. But usually Li-ion batteries detoriate with age and sometimes they don't work as well. Unfortunately you got a bad one ...
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Where did you buy them from?

I'm looking into getting X40 batteries from ebay, but it'd be nice to know which ones aren't good.
X22 - 800mhz - 640MB RAM - 60GB Hitachi 7200rpm 7k100
X40 - 1.4ghz - 1.5GB RAM - 8GB Transcend 300x CF on Addonics CF/IDE Adapter
T42p - 1.8ghz - 15" UXGA - 1GB RAM - 160GB HDD
X61t - C2D 1.6ghz - 12.1" SXGA+ - 8GB RAM - Intel G3 300GB SSD

Just from a local store, it says Vancouver, but I'm actually in Dunedin NZ, so there isn't much choice in terms of IBM retailers....
