Wifi FRU 91P7301 issue

#1 Post by mini_g » Sun Jul 20, 2008 1:58 pm

I recently upgraded my X32's RAM up to 1.25 GB (A new and tested, G.Skill & the original Hynix) and it worked fine until yesterday (I altered some BIOS options for the security chip). It then started to lockup. I proceeded to remove the new stick of RAM and it worked fine again. I then swapped the old with the new and it gave me the 4 beep boot error. So I reset the CMOS and now the new stick works and the error is gone, but then my Wifi card gave me a 1802 error upon boot. I bypassed it using this patch, and I could then meet the frozen system. I then found out that it froze upon hitting 38 C/100 F. While deactivated via the BIOS, it is now hitting & bypassing 38 C without locking the system up,.

:banghead:

I bought the X32 with this card in it, so it seems that it was already patched due to the card not being on the whitelist.

Sorry if I rambled as it was a long week and am not communicating well right now.

*Edit*
Might this issue be in part due to my seeding for days on end? I know that my USB card can get hot to the touch if I let it run for any length of time.

Your wifi card was working. All you did was reset BIOS, install new RAM, and install a patch. Seems to me the patch or the new RAM is the problem. Does it freeze with just the old RAM?

Nope, and it's at ~44 C.

I wonder if the patch doesn't work when the available memory address' are above a certain level, as the 1 GB stick by itself works fine as long as the wifi is off.

That's just weird. I'd try different RAM, just because :). Newegg is pretty good (sometimes) about returns. Try Crucial.

Well... I already have another stick arriving tomorrow.

Hrm. I guess I'll just work off of an external wifi card for right now and do some further digging, as I'd rather spend the time instead of paying the restocking fee...

Let us know how the replacement RAM does. Good luck.

Ah, sorry about being vague. It is the same as the one that I bought before...

Shall do if there is a difference though! Am thinking that replacing the card would be the cheapest option if needed.

I think that I've found a lead for the issue.

I must've installed a package that conflicts with the Ubuntu patches for the kernel, as my system runs fine with with one of my USB wifi adaptors, but panicked upon attemption to get an IP address. This happens mostly with the atheros card (see above), a RaLink 2550, and the ethernet (when there is not a wifi card installed).
