Overclocking X41 PINMODE 400>533Mhz FSB

Hi...

Has anybody tried to overclock x41 witch PINMODE? In teory it is possible. In my X41 I have PM 1,5Ghz Dothan witch working on 400Mhz FSB. If I would done Pinmode, CLOCK will grow up to 2Ghz - nice speed. CPU is 100% stable on 0,908 V(1,5ghZ) so I think the should't be problem .

The X series CPUs are soldered on the motherboard, I don't think pinmods are possible ...

Interesting. But what would a 2GHz CPU temp be in a cramped laptop like X41?

If the there are vias going to the other side of the board you can do it. Basically when you can see that pattern of dots in the shape of the cpu's pins on the bottom of the board. You'd link up the "pins" you want with a silver pen or something. Just remember that the order of the pins are different on the other side.

If you continue to undervolt the temps probably won't be too bad.

there's a good chance of this working, esp. at standard voltages since lv cpus are made to higher tolerances. the chipset should have no problems with signaling a higher fsb, it's the memory divider i'm worried about since we don't have any bios controls for that. then again, most pc4200 ought to be able to handle pc5300 speeds... i think...

i just took down my x41 to the bare naked mobo, and i can't see any feasible way of performing the pinmod. the pins don't come through to the back side of the board (obviously) and they're so small that it's not possible to insert the wire just through the side. the same is true of the 915 chipset controller.

our best bet is software manipulation of the pll via a kernel module kinda like the eeectl for eeepc. the 910 chipset apparently ignores input on bsel and uses a pll to generate 100mhz fsb. although the x41 features the 915gm chipset and *should* be able to handle bsel input from the cpu to set 133mhz fsb, it may be that the fsb is set like the eeepc.

then again, there was also this guy who managed to unsolder the celeron 900 on the eeepc and replace it with a pentium-m ulv 1.2ghz. obviously this requires a hot air rework station to remove the original cpu, and it also involves properly re-balling the cpu/mobo... way too much work for so little return.
