Electrical current felt in X31 LCD cover when plugged in
Electrical current felt in X31 LCD cover when plugged in
I stupidly let my battery run all the way down and my X31 shut off with a click or soft pop. ( I'm in Bali, Indonesia, and I have to go to a wireless cafe for internet where there is no working electrical outlet. Since I was caught up in something I turned it back on after it beeped and went into standby, when I usually have another 15 minutes or so, but I got carried away on a phone call. )
Anyway, I plugged it in when I got back home, and now I feel a pulsing current in the lid when I touch or rub it lightly. It's not strong enough to shock me or make me move my hand away, just a light buzzing or throbbing sensation, whether the laptop is running or not, but only when it's plugged in. It's only in the lid, and if I just touch it keeping my hand still, or un-ground it or myself, I don't feel it. With no authorized repair shops on the island, I'm hesitant to let anyone touch it, since the best shop in town broke the screen on a previous X31 I had given them to work on.
I can't find any references to this particular problem on the internet, but I'm hoping someone here might know what happened, if there is further risk if it's not fixed quickly, or if it might even be something like an easy solder to fix.
Thank you much in advance for any help you might be able to offer. My machine is a 2672-CBU 1.4 Centrino, with an 80 GB HD and 1GB RAM running XP Pro SP2.

The covering probably got rubbed of the top of your laptop. On my x22, I can feel a slight charge when I touch it in certain areas or get a little shock.

Re:
Actually, the laptop is like new, with no visible wear at all. I'm sure it's related to the "pop" which happened when the battery died, as it started right then when I first plugged it in. I feel the current when rubbing any part of the metal cover, but nowhere else on the body.
Two things to check quickly: see if the issue persists with a different adapter (with and wihtout a seperate powerstrip) ...

Thanks for your suggestions. I found another adaptor today and tried mixing the cords. Same thing- makes no difference- as long as power is connected to the laptop, the electrical current can be felt.
I found a reference to an A31 having a similar problem, supposedly due to a blown fuse on the motherboard, but I'm not that competent and don't have tools here either. I asked the technician today who broke my last X31 just to see what he said, and he had no idea and hadn't ever heard of this problem.
