X40 Bad Disk - What are my options.

#1 Post by vext01 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 12:09 pm

Hi there,

I have just bought a second hand X40. The disk appears to be faulting. I was thinking about putting my old laptop (r50e) disk into the X40, but to my horror it uses a very rare and expensive mini disk.

I can still return this laptop to the seller on ebay, but incase he/she offers to replace the disk, where in the UK can I get such a disk? There are a few on eBay but are very expensive.

Someone said to me you can get an adapter that allows flash memory to be used. Is this so? If so where in the UK do I get one of those?

Incase you are interested about the disk faults, here is my original post on the OpenBSD mailing lists:

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

If it were me the best option would be to have the seller make it right. If not I would return it because as you mention the X4x series hard drives are very expensive. Probably more so across the pond than they are in here in the US.

Thanks for the welcome :) Yup thats my first post, but I have been using thinkpad for about 3 years. Trusty old r50e, but now I want something more portable to take to conferences.

I am thinking of returning the x40 and purchasing an x41 with a normal disk.

But wait...

....the X41 uses the SAME disk....

The X3x series and X6x series use standard laptop 2.5" disks (PATA and SATA respectively).

Thanks for the heads up. I am looking at at x31 then. x6* is way out of student price range.
