IBM Install Discs for X24, X31 and X40

#1 Post by Imran999 » Sun Sep 21, 2008 4:44 pm

I have install discs (from IBM) for the X24, X31 and X40.
If anyone needs them, PM me.

X24/X31 are both SP1, X40 is SP2.

thanks

Just to be clear, are you offering these for free or for a certain price? We don't do cryptic PM me for detail deals here ...

Hi All,

I should have been clear - this was just my way of doing my bit for the forum, i have got so much useful information from here, i just wanted to help out. As such, i am not charging anything for these at all.

Of-course, it is my understanding that this is not a violation of any copyright laws. Each install must be activated by a Windows licence which you must already have. The software is generic to the best of my understanding.

thanks!

This isn't true really. I don't think it's a real issue, but you could easily use these with the appropriate machines without a COA attached to the machine. The license is built into the preload. Typically anyone with an X31 for example that would need some install discs would have a valid COA associated with that machine.

Hi,

That was indeed my understanding, that IBM produces a generic set of discs that rely upon the user of said discs to have a valid certificate.

Whenever i have used the discs for my X40, Windows has asked me for a COA code, often i have had to call Microsoft's helpline and get the code validated by them because for some reason it doesn't validate over the internet.

thanks!

Hi Gang,

lots of interest in these - does anyone have an FTP site where we can upload the ISO's to?

thanks

This is very typical of an incomplete install. You aren't getting the full preload. There are specific instructions to go into the BIOS and make the CD drive the first boot drive. After the initial install of the OS the computer reboots. If you selected the CD drive with F12 instead of making it boot priorety it will boot to the HD and complete the windows install. OTOH if you did it right it will boot back into the CD again and finish loading the IBM preload which will put it's own code which requires NO activation. I have a T20 with Win 2000 discs, 2 A31s with Win 2000 and win XP discs, 2 X32s with WIn XP discs for X32 and X31, and an X60 Tablet with XPTE and Vista Business discs and they all work the same way in that regard.

I would add all of mine as ISOs to the same FTP. I just want them to be available for years to come. Sounds like a great community project.

Whoa folks. We can't condone sharing of downloadable preload iso's. It is possibly questionable from a legality standpoint and we don't allow it from a forum rules perspective. Thread closed.
