X31 HD problem

#1 Post by cy1clown » Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:25 am

Hi all, I have a question about my hard drive. I recently bought a use X31 from USANotebook.com, and had no problems until now. The HD was acting a little odd, when viewing movies and the HD was being accessed occasionally I would get a stutter in the movie. I used HD Tune Pro 3.10 to check the hard drive and in the Health tab it gave me a Reallocated Sector Count Fail. The results were Count 1, Worst 1, Threshold 50, Data 1023. My understanding is this indicates that the drive is starting to fail. Is this true? What are my options? New hard drive?
Other than this issue I have been very happy with the X31, I also have an X24 that I have used also.

Thanks
Jon Steckelberg

Definitely needs a new drive. The IBM Travelstars only have an estimated running lifespan of about 4 years. Replace it and you'll get something that is faster, quieter and more efficient on your machine...

Just ask for a 2.5" PATA drive, 5400 if you want to save a buck, 7200 if you need that extra burst of speed.

Pegasus - X31 (2672-CXU)
Taurus - X24 (2662-MQU)

That is what I thought. It is a refurb and I got a 6mo warranty so hopefully they will replace it.

Thanks
Jon
