X41 Battery drains to dead on standby

#1 Post by kennyschiff » Sat Oct 18, 2008 8:49 am

I use my X41 as my kitchen computer and typically put it to sleep when I'm done with breakfast. In most case the battery will have at least 50% or more battery life left. If I don't reattach the machine to the AC adapter, I will often return to the machine a few days later with a completely dead battery.

The battery does take a charge and will run for a while on a battery once charged. The issue seems completely tied to standby.

Power Manger says the battery is "good," and I've recently done the "battery maintenance" process, to no avail.

I'm using the "power source optimized" power scheme. Cycle count on my battery is 97.

Machine is out of warranty, so not sure what's smartest tact here.

In standby/sleep mode, power is needed to keep the RAM content refreshed. So it's normal that battery power will become depreciated if AC is not connected.

To keep the depreciation to a minimum, hibernate or shut down the PC.

If your battery is the original came with the PC, then I presume it's more than >3-yr old because you said that the PC is out of warranty already. In that case I think it's normal that a few days of staying in standby/sleep mode will drain the battery to (almost) empty.
