trackpoint driver(s) causing trackpoint to stop functioning

#1 Post by aquarius » Wed Oct 22, 2008 3:27 pm

i loaded XP Pro SP3 onto a new hard drive for an x31 i bought for my brother.

went to IBM and downloaded all the drivers and utilities i would need.

so far so good.

the problem i'm having is the IBM/Lenovo signed driver for the trackpoint causes lots of problems.

the biggest problem is, once you update the generic windows driver to the IBM/Lenovo driver, the trackpoint stops working 100%, including the mouse keys.

i've tried the newest trackpoint driver, along with legacy versions.
same end result.

for now, i performed a restore and i'm using the generic windows driver.

my biggest gripe with this is the center mouse key enables a competely different scrolling experience.
rather than the traditional IBM up-and-down scrolling experience which only works when you have the center mouse button depressed, the windows verizon puts the pointer into a "locked scroll" which does not deactivate until you've pressed the center button again..

trying to describe this is hard, but i have a feeling i'm not alone on this one and someone will know what i'm talking about.

thanks for any replies.

I was able to get the trackpoint working again by reinstalling the latest IBM/Lenovo trackpoint drivers and enabling the trackpoint using the Thinkpad Configuration utility.
