X40 dock options

will an X40 fit on the same dock as the T40?

The T40 has it's connector in the middle while the X40 has its connector offset to the right. The connectors underneath are physically different plus the locking tabs won't line up. So unfortunately it won't fit.

Okay, picked up an X40 with a media base but the optical drive is missing. What are my choices? Will either the CD-DVD from the T41 or the R51 fit?

The slot in the Ultrabase supports Ultrabay Slim drives, so everything from a T4x should work, but the thicker R5x drives would not physically fit (unless you happen to have an Ultrabay Slim drive inside the R5x, instead of the usual Ultrabay Enhanced).
