I loved my x41t, used it everywhere, and one day about 5 months ago it just stopped working, refused to power up. Almost acted like it wasn't getting any power whatsoever - whether it was using it's mostly dead battery or AC powered. I troubleshooted it to death, hoping to get it going, but failed. My impression was the motherboard or CPU was dead. I put it away with intent to repair.
5 months later I pull it out because I realized it actually has some warranty left. I am on hold with the support guy in Atlanta, and I decide to plug in the power adapter - and it worked. It has a burnish smell - but I am not sure if it is the smell of dust being burnt out (was not very dusty where it was..) or if it's the smell of burning capacitors.
So guy picks up on support call, asks what my issue is - and I was still sort of taken aback that the tablet powered up as if it was Summertime. I told him that I was going to not submit a ticket yet, but wait for a few days and see if there is a problem. He was willing to let me send it to them to check for problems.
I have never opened up a tablet before. Plenty of laptops and PCs. Has this problem happened to anyone else here? Should I open it to verify there might be visible damage? Should I take them up on their offer to inspect it?
I apologize - I have never had a device come back from the dead before. If this is some sort of temporary reprieve, I would prefer to deal with the cause sooner than later.
Thanks for your advice,
WC
Unexplained shutdown of X41t, then back to life?
Re: Unexplained shutdown of X41t, then back to life?
Unless you're very keen to opening it up yourself and have much time. Why wouldn't you send it back to have it checked by them?WildCard wrote:Should I open it to verify there might be visible damage? Should I take them up on their offer to inspect it?
