X31 Wireless Connection - Intel 2100 Problems

#1 Post by jimjam » Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:15 pm

I've been trying to find a solution for this over the last few days and I've hit a dead end - I've tried everything suggested but am still having the problem.

Basically when either casually surfing or downloading a file my connection to my router will drop and will reconnect again.

So far I've:
Installed latest Intel drivers
Installed Thinkvantage access connections
Removed Thinkvantage access connections
Changed the power settings on the card to manual and high for power management
Tried it on XP SP2 and SP3 and issues occur on both

Has there been a fix for this? Or is this an isolated problem that only I'm having?

I don't really want to but I think my last resort will just to buy a a new mini pci wireless card. (Is the x31 fussy about what brand/type?)

Thinking of:
Ahteros AR5BMB5
Intel 2200

Can anyone confirm they're fully compatible?

Thanks everyone.

Not to ask an obvious question, but to ask an oblivious question: Are there any other devices that are wirelessly connected up to this router, and are they having the same problem, and have you updated the firmware on your router?

Which model/firmware revision are you using on the router?

Hi!

I'm using a Netgear DG834GT - Version 1.02.16

My Dell x300 connects to the router without having any of these issues.

I'm tempted to take the wifi card out of the x300 and put it in the ibm. Would a dell card have any compatibility issues?

Edit:

It did! - Error - unauthorised network card plugged in.

Can I only replace it with an intel card?

Thanks

If you have the choice, the Atheros card may be faster. I just did some speed tests with two TPs next to each other, both through the same wifi router (netgear). One (R51) has an Intel 2200 wifi card, the X31 has an Atheros - and was consistently almost twice as fast on the downloads. So maybe not all wifi cards are equal. And in my X31, the Atheros works.
T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)

Did you figure out a solution to this problem?

After a fresh Windows XP install (not using the R&R disks) my X31 with 21003b card is doing the same thing. It can't hold a connection for more than a few minutes and drops out if I'm downloading a large file.

If you could please post your solution, that would be great.

Thanks
James
