AC Adaptor & High Pitch sound?

#1 Post by Txiasaeia » Thu Jan 20, 2005 12:21 pm

Had my X31 for about six months, and now the AC adaptor is making a high pitched sound, like a quiet (but annoying) squeal. Anybody else have this problem? Is it covered by my warranty, or do I need to fork out $70 for a new one?

If defective.
It would be a warranty item.

No worries, my AC for x40 do the same. I searched the web and it seems to be a normal behavior of AC adapters.

I also consulted it with an electrical engineer on the University and he said it is quite normal in case of switch power supply and natural for electrical devices.

If the noise is low = when you hear it only a few inches near the AC adapter it is in order.

If you hear it over the room, there could be a problem.

I've the same problem with my X31, but I only hear it when the battery is down, the TP is switched on and the battery is charged.

It's highly annoying!

The high pitched sound is also changed in frequenz if the harddrive is accessed, which is annoying me even more.

That's a 72w adapter .. try using the 56w and you'll see the noise will go away.

Old engineer joke:

Engineer 1: Why is that power supply humming?

Engineer 2: Because it doesn't know the words.
