I seem to have run into a snag trying to get bluetooth recognized on my X41.
I installed the correct bluetooth modem (#39T0026).
The modem part shows OK in Device Manager.
Access connections Fn+F5 shows wireless only.
The bluetooth LED doesn't light.
There is no listing for Bluetooth radios in Device Manager (XP SP3).
Using a known working BT modem (#91P7319) from an X40 does nothing.
Microsoft's BT drivers do nothing.
IBM's BT drivers do nothing.
The X41 has a fresh XP install on a fresh HD.
All the appropriate X41 drivers are installed. No ! in Device Manager.
No Bluetooth in Ubuntu Linux either.
The only unknown is that this laptop has Computrace on it.
I don’t know if there is a conflict somewhere along the line between it and BT.
I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version but had a devil of a job
updating the Embedded Controller to v1.02, I ended up having to do it by
floppy.
I guess Computrace resides on the controller and was blocking
the update.
Did I miss something? Motherboard problem maybe?

Re: X41 bluetooth not working at all
You ran the BT stack installation already? BT device needs to be turned on to pickup the driver. Usually the only way to do that the first time is via the install utility.

Re: X41 bluetooth not working at all
I was under the impression that when a BT modem is installed, Windows or Linux would pick up on the fact that it was at least in the machine and one could deal with the software later. In this case the laptop doesn't know the BT is there so there is really no way to install anything pertaining to it.

Found the answer! I didn't realize that the Network page in BIOS scrolled down further
than the listings that were immediatly visible and Bluetooth was set as hidden from the system.
Enabling the system to see it was of course the answer.
Duh!
