Quietest HD for X21 / vs Hitachi 7K60

#1 Post by tradbourne » Tue Jan 25, 2005 7:24 am

I want to upgrade the whining 20 gigger in this X21, and am considering the well reputed Hitachi 7K60 drive for its speed, but I am concerned about noise.

What is the quietest drive available in 40-60 gig size and how much noisier is the 7K60?

thanks
Tim

Well my 7K60 drive doesn't sound very much at all, it's in fact quieter than the original 4200rpm drive that ticked a lot when the disk was accessed

I see that StorageReview.com plans on reviewing notebook drives soon. This will be interesting to see how they place the drives....

Last year I replaced a Hitachi 4200 / 20 gig by a 4200 / 60gig Fujitsu Siemens in my old Dell Inspiron. The noise of the Fujitsu is so much less.
Recently bought 2 5400 / 80 gig Fujitsu Siemens and build them into an ExternalHDD casing.

I find both speed versions very quiet.
