#1 Post by cambojp » Sun Mar 08, 2009 9:57 pm

Dear members here, please help me.
The motherboard(mainboard) of my laptop x31 type 2627 - A9J, with CPU Pentium M 1.6GHz, was burn accidently. It is hard for me to find the same type of motherboard to change it.

Will it work if I buy other types of motherboard??

My laptop's motherboard:
ThinkPad x31
type: 2627 - A9J
cpu: Pentium M 1.60GHz

Another motherboard I will buy to change:
ThinkPad x31
type:2672-NBJ
CPU:Mobile Pentium M 1.6GHz

Any X31 systemboard will work in your chassis. In fact I think X30 boards would work too, but I'm not positive. You'd want to chose one with the same or better features than what you've got on hand, unless you see a deal and cost is a factor. In other words if you have a board with a 1.6Ghz CPU, you'd want the same board unless you see a 1.4Ghz board for free.

Well, yes, it would be nice to get a board with another 1.6 GHz processor. But the main issue is to just get a replacement board, and 1.4GHz boards are probably much more available - and no doubt cheaper.

From my understanding .I had the X30 and now have the X31.
The X30 is a P-III system and is just a little diffrent from the X31/2.
When i had my X30 i looked into getting a X31 board to put in it.Some reason i cant think of now it wouldent fit.
But any X31 or X32 motherboard will fit in the X31 .

I could be wrong tho...

I bought bottom plastics (the belly of the beast) recently to replace cracked parts. Inadvertently purchased an x30 underbelly for my x31 -- didn't fit. The USB and audio ports were in different spots. Therefore, I suspect the x30 mobo won't work in the x31 chassis. X32 should be fine, if you can find one. But any x31 mobo will fit.

I also wouldn't recommend X30 mobo, because Pentium III-m is much slower than Pentium M, and I think X30mobo lacks usb 2.0.
X32 and X31 motherboards, however, are fully compatible, but X32 anything is far more expensive than X31.
