X41 w/ Atheros a/b/g

#1 Post by ricerocket » Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:53 am

Does anyone have an X41 w/ the IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II? Do you mind checking the P/N or FRU on the back of the card?

ThinkWiki says (link) it comes with this card, but I ordered one on eBay (IBM P/N# 73P4301, FRU# 91P7301), and it gives me the 1802 error.

Thanks.

ricerocket, the model thinkwiki gave is not listed by IBM for an X41. But you can go here to find the exact part IBM calls for (be sure to look at your type number and match it to the list).

Ah, I never thought to look there. I have a Tablet...

So it looks like I need the *other* Atheros card, the Bartlett, not the Ambit. Who woulda thought...

Thanks for the link.

The 1802 error is easily resolved using the techniques described in the official topic. Do you need more help from there?

Is it the methods that are on Thinkwiki? Apparently none of them work for the X41/T43. :|

I PM'd Zender, but he seems busy and hasn't been able to get back to a couple people.

Atheros II card has been used in a number of T43/p and R52 units and shouldn't be that difficult to locate...

Yeah, I found one. dragon_on_the_edge on eBay sells 'em both, but apparently I got the wrong one. He's offering to let me trade up at no cost.

For reference, you need the card w/ FRU 93P4262 / 39T0081 / 39T0355 / 27K9944, and NOT 91P7301.

I'd still like the BIOS hack though, in case I ever want to trade up to the Atheros a/b/g/n card from SparkLAN.

I have an Atheros AR5008 11n miniPCI card running in a T42p. But of course it will not work in T43 and X41.

That's the draw back with T43/R52/X41.

Dragon_on_the_edge is a good source. The 11n miniExpress card in my T60 came from them. Initially the intel 11n card for a T61 didn't work either. They traded the Atheros card for me which worked fine.

I have the Ralink 11n card similar to SparkLAN running in two A31p now. They take three antennae so I added the additional antenna in the lid.

Got a link to the 5008 card? The one SparkLAN one is a AR9001 card.

I've been running a 11-n ralink-based sparklan card in my X41 for 6+ months now with no problems. I did have to make the bios edits that zender outlined in that thread.

Adding wifi-n and bluetooth were the best things I could have done for the X41. I almost feel naked without it!

Do you still have a patched BIOS file? Zender's pretty busy and hasn't been able to do much since January or so.

I just installed a 73P4301 (ThinkPad 11a/b/g PCI Adapter II - PC Optiond) into my X41 and it works fine.

So 73P4301 does work with X41 as is.
