ultrabay device - external enclosure??

can ibm ultrabay devices be used without the ultrabay itself? are there enclosures or cases that one can use instead?

there was an adapeter a while go that you could get but im not sure exactly what its called. it plugs into the ultrabay but the rest is exposed

I think this is the kind of thing I need. Seems to be discontinued by IBM, but does anyone know if XP driver's work with it:

I've heard of a cable to run a floppy outside of a bay but nothing for CD media.
