X41-T Not allowing me to set proper res. on external monitor

#1 Post by Investinwaffles » Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:30 am

Ok, so im using the intel graphics drivers (and subsequently the intel graphics "control panel" thing), because i like how my screen switches when i rotate the display.

My dad gave me his old 19" widescreen monitor that runs at 1440 x 900 resolution.
This computer absolutely refuses to recognize that resolution.

Ive been switching every setting i can find, back and forth in every perceivable combination but it will only give me the following resolutions (for the external monitor)

800 x 600
1024 x 768
1600 x 1200
2048 x 1536

Ive tried switching the display between full screen and maintain aspect ratio (both external and the 12" thinkpad display) but it is only ending in my frustration.

Please help me before I punch either the monitor or my laptop!!!!

You need a monitor driver for that monitor. My TV is native 1366x768 and the closest I could get to is 1280x720. I border is cut off on the screen. The Windows XP Media Center Edition has better resolution control but I don't have MCE.

If this monitor has DVI input, the computer may be able to detect it.

I think the 915 graphics is a POS and won't allow widescreen resolutions. I tried all kinds of custom resolution programs with no success. Several sites said it can't be done.
I just switch my monitor to 4:3 aspect ratio so there's black bars on the side.
:(
lemme know if you do figure something out though..
I totally wish someone could figure out a hack to get this to run aero too.
