Have the associated drivers and utilities been installed yet?

I'm not sure but Tablet Button driver and Tablet Button Menu are a good start.

Yes I installed everything The answer is the tablet shortcut menu. It works now although very slow to change orientation from portrait to landscape. Any ideas on how to speed it up I clocked it and it takes about 30 secs Shouldnt it be immediate.

Are you switching orientation after the system is just fully booted (no app. opened and HDD light mostly idle), and how many RAM are in the system?

I don't have one on hand but IIRC, it takes 5-15s depending what are running. I presume it takes longer if resources (e.g. CPU, RAM) are strained.

Besides, I wouldn't install everything because (IMO) some of them (e.g. Productivity Center) are not that useful and are just dragging the system down.

Cheers.

Can I mark this post solved. I downloaded the latest graphic driver direct from intel and now the screen auto rotates when I go into tablet mode

Admin note: Moved thread from X200/X30x forum to here. There's really no support on this forum for officially marking a thread "solved", but your comment should suffice.

So will this work under Windows 7 then? I have the same problem and it's irritating as hell.

Which problem? If auto rotation isn't working have you installed the Tablet Shortcut menu? On the menu you can configure auto rotation.

If the problem is a long delay before auto-rotation then check Windows Update for the latest Intel display driver.

Well, it works now without fail, but still takes 30-40 seconds to change. Maybe it's just a Win7 thing?

Hey folks- just wanted to say I had the same problem and solved it.

Symptoms:
-No screen rotation / orientation change.
-Screen kept defaulting to 800x600 after boot.
-Video adapter driver in Device Manager shows up as "Standard VGA Adapter".
-Secondary video port is "unknown device".
-All other buttons work, (up/down, tablet options, etc.) EXCEPT orientation button.
-No option for Sleep or Hibernate in the shutdown menu, they're greyed out.

I tried Windows Update and Lenovo Update Manager to install drivers. I also downloaded the XP graphics drivers from Lenovo and installed them manually. They would refuse to load at boot.

The solution for me was to install the INF files using Intel's "INF Update Utility". The executable is called "infinst_autol.exe". Then, I downloaded the Windows XP graphics driver from Intel. Yes, I'm using Windows 7, but I installed the XP driver. There's a version "1424.xxx" that comes in a .ZIP file "intended for developers". That's what I used, NOT the "1425.50xx" "Latest" driver that comes in a .EXE.

So to summarize:
1) Go to Device Manager, uninstall the "Standard VGA Adapter" and "Non-PnP VGA Display". Don't reboot yet.

2) Go to this page:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchR ... set+Family
Choose "Windows XP Professional" as your operating system, NOT Windows 7!

3) Get these files and install them:
infinst_autol.exe "INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets"
win2k_xp1424.zip "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (zip)"

4) Reboot. If everything else is okay (Lenovo Button Manager, for example), then you should be able to enjoy screen rotation automatically and by using the display orientation button.

I hope this saves someone the hours of frustration I went through to figure it out!

oh, and P.S. the handwriting recognition in win 7 is a vast improvement over XP! It's worth the upgrade-

OK, I've been working on the same problem for 5 days now. I've followed all the instructions and installed all the right drivers, Tablet Button Driver and Newest Intel Graphics Driver, and still my screen won't auto rotate. I can do it manually with the buttons but since I did a clean install of XP for Tablet PC 2005 it's not working anymore. Am I missing something in a setting somewhere?

Do you also have Active Protection and Tablet Shortcut Menu installed? Active Protection (hard drive airbag) is required because it provides access to the accelerometer, which senses direction. The auto rotate setting is in the settings dialog of Tablet Shortcut Menu.

Well I downloaded and install the ThinkVantage system update program from the IBM site and it looked at my system and installed what was missing and now everything is working perfectly. Thanks everybody!
