X41T - Fuse? Battery no charge/run machine. Green status LED

#1 Post by MisterDNA » Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:27 pm

Tried searching, found nothing encouraging. Sorry if I missed it.

My TP X41 Tablet was described in the eBay auction as having a bad battery. Under a 4A load [resistive, for the record] on my DIY battery analyzer [Loaded voltage recorded at different load levels, the voltage hardly budged from open-circuit level].

The ThinkVantage power monitor thing says I have 217 cycles on the pack, but it's green status with 35Wh usable capacity to it.

When I unplug the AC adapter, it dumps immediately.

I suspect one of those PITA SMD fuses that are always blowing for no blasted reason in machines I work on.

I have access to an insane amount of test gear since my day job is that of Electronics Technician, but I never go off half-cocked so is there anything I should know or anything special to check before I grab a maintenance manual and go to town?

There is a T4x fuse map but no X41t fuse map had been posted that I know of. If you open yours, why don't you post what you find.

I opened it. Fuses were fine. Battery fuses, however, were not. I found one that was bad, but they have four contacts. It would seem that one might be a circuit to watchdog the charging circuit. While I did manage to get power back to the system to prove it's not my machine, I get the blinking amber battery light and no charging.

Maybe that weird fuse I can't find a datasheet for uses the magnetic field from the flow or something to create some small voltage that the other half senses?

I don't know. With half the capacity of this pack already gone, I think it's just time to order a new battery.

Seriously, though, four prismatic cells and four 18650s? Are they high?
