X41t latch repair

#1 Post by billp117 » Sat Jun 06, 2009 1:53 am

Any suggestions? I bought a tablet that is missing the latch part on the top of the lcd. I need to order the part but can't find the process to repair it.

Thanks, Bill

The HMM is available at:

I'm not sure if you can buy the latch by itself through.

Cheers.

Thanks for the link. I do have this document and I have also found the part. My concern is deciding to replace the latch. It looks to me that the lcd must be totally taken apart to replace the broken latch...maybe not worth the trouble. I did find a used latch on eBay for $16 plus shipping...ouch on the shipping. But, they have not repsonded on the install instructions. The manual does not give a clear replacement guide.

Again...thanks. I appreciate your willingness to help me solve the problem. I like this forum and the helpful members.

Regards, Bill

Having removed the screen in a T40 and messed around with many 240's the latch replacement isn't difficult. It does require that you remove the plactic bezel from around the screen. I'm not sure how far the bezel goes in the tablet because of the controls at the bottom and side. In any event once the bezel is off you'll see there is room to replace the latch without removing the screen, it's tight but there is enough room. You'll see a longish return spring that fits onto the round long end of the latch. It could also be that the spring has slipped out of it's mounting so there is no return action. It's easy to slide it back in if that's problem. In any event I'd open it up to see exactly what's going on and you may not need to buy the latch after all.

Sorry I just realized that the tablet has a completely different latch assembly than non tablet laptops. I did find this topic here which might help.
