I'm assuming that the card in question is not a genuine IBM card...search the forum for "1802 error" and you'll find the solution quickly...

I'm pretty sure the X31 can boot from USB. Make your flash drive DOS bootable and run the program from there.

Try looking at these websites:

http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm
http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm

Not sure that a 8GB flash is supported though. If nothing else works, it might be worth to buy/beg/borrow a USB Floppy. :D

Or buy a proper card for $15 or so...

Good point! Didn't think of that more logical option.

Just make sure you realize that "proper" is defined by your BIOS version. Depending on the card you get, you might need to do a BIOS upgrade.

I did the 1802 fix on both our X31s (some years ago) and it was quite easy -- but then I had an Ultrabase handy for booting from.

Just follow the 1802 error thread ... there's a link in there that helps you make a bootable disk. You run that disk, and there's no more 1802 error, everything works. I've got the same card, and had the same error.

Thinkwiki has a great page, here:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card

I used the DOS-based no-1802 CD, which I've got a copy of at home. (The on-line link is dead, unfortunately -- I supposed I could try to remember to make my home copy available to you. :) Alternately, you could follow this link:

Good luck!
