DELL X200 vs. IBM X22, X23, X24

#1 Post by daeojkim » Fri Feb 04, 2005 12:05 pm

I am considering purchasing a small light weight notebook for purpose high mobility. Mostly for web browsing, office applications, run non-intense softwares (e.g. dictionary, etc)

I had used DELL X200 before, but never had the chance to see or use a X22 (or any X series) in person. I decided not to go for X20, or X21 due to their limited RAM amounts.

Does anyone have experience with both of these noteboks by any chance?

Any comments or opinions are welcome.

I am looking into spending about $500, possibly from e-bay.

Thanks in advance.

I have had an X23 (I think it's 800 mhz) that my family uses around the house -- mostly kids' homework. It is more than adequate to run MS Office 2003 apps (including querying some rather large Access databases), Photoshop jpg editing, and Adobe Acrobat Pro for various apps.

If you get one that has a year or so left in it you should be pleased.

The only downside is that the built-in wifi on these older units is b only so when I put in an a/b/g WiFi access point I had to get a PC card wifi adapter.

I've used Dell laptops before and they are crap, I constantly had hardware that would break or fail and need replacing. No doubt it was a few years ago and they may have improved since. But because of the hands-on experience I had, I'd never consider them again.
