firewire on x31

I have a firewire port on my x31 (apparently 4 wire mini-firewire, not easy to find specs ) ...I am curious about it. I want to get an external drive ...some require 2 usb connections to be powered. Does the firewire provide power? If so, with some sort of adapter firewire->USB would I be able to use the firewire port for the power source freeing up the 2nd USB? ...further, there are a few external drives that furnish both connections; however, they seem to have a regular firewire connection (400 and/or 800)... which one do I have, and can I adapt from regular firewire to mini?

I don't believe mini-firewire provides power. You'd need the six pin for power.
