#1 Post by OnlyThinkpad » Sat Feb 05, 2005 3:21 pm

Anyone has successfully installed Fedora on their X40? Any special drivers needed for video, sound, IBM wifi???

Mind sharing your experience?

thanks

I've done it and been pretty successful. I'm currently running Core 3. With the latest batch of kernels it even comes with a wireless driver for the 2100. Before that, you could download and compile it. The IR and SD devices don't work, but sound, video, ethernet, etc all work a treat. Haven't really bothered with hibernate and suspend, but they might be made to work.

i've got linux on an x31 and suspend-to-ram and hibernate-to-disk work on mine. I use ACPI. This is very important -- IBM T and X series laptops have a functional ACPI suspend to ram feature. It's VERY hard to find it in other brands.

I'd bet irda can be used under linux. Check the link mentioned above for resources.

I've heard a rumor, that one of the core ACPI developers uses x40, so i would expect power management to work flawless on those :D
