Help X31 Ac Problem causing shutdown

Hi, I have a problem with my x31 and hope someone can help me.
I thought my x31 charger had become damaged again as it would not charge properly unless i twisted the ac cable a certain position. However now even when twisted correctly and charging, the ac in on the x31 will get very hot causing the notebook to shutdown. When i charge it while off it does not seem to be a problem (although it will still get pretty hot).
Anyone experienced anything similar and can suggest how to remedy the problem or what it might be?!?
Could it just be a faulty cable?
