No backlight on a X41T

#1 Post by obarriel » Thu Aug 06, 2009 8:25 am

Yesterday the backlight of my X41T started flickering. Finally after 15 min like this finally backlight switched permanently ON and everything behaved as normal.

However this morning I have found that now there is no backlight at all (even no a single second after booting). I haven't had the opportunity to test with an external monitor yet, but I think that it will work OK. With these symptoms do you think it can be the inverter? or it must be the backlight?

Too bad since the warranty expired only some days ago.

Thank you

My experience is that there is a 95% chance it is the backlight and a 5% chance it is the inverter. The inverter is obviously a much cheaper repair, so you may want to try one first.

Something strange happens, as backlight has come back in some situation. Sometimes I have normal backlight , sometimes the screen flickers with backlight on/off, and in some cases there is no backlight at all. More strange is that the x41t now refuses to boot working only with battery (a one in good health and fully charged), just the system reboots after the iniatial thinkpad logo. With the power cord attached it boots into windows OK.

I think I could barely smell some fried electronics the day the problems started. A partially fried inverted could be giving this? I will disassemble it in case I can see any other damage in the motherboard.

BTW, the inverter for x40/x41 also work for tablet?
