Latest Thoughts on SSD in x200 tablets?

#1 Post by stephens241 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 1:27 pm

Am considering the x200 tablet, and wonder if anyone here has used both an SSD and 7300rpm drive in one of these. In daily use, are there tangible differences in speed and battery life under XP and/or Vista?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Regardless of which computer (X200 or anything else) a solid state drive will always perform better. 30% to 60% faster is what I have found on my T60 ThinkPads. I am currently running Intel 80 gig SSDs on three T60 machines and Windows 7.

XP and Vista are not at all SSD aware, so, Prefetch, Superfetch and Defragment must be manually disabled, as they are counterproductive with a solid state drive. My personal real word experiences with running XP and Vista on a SSD show significant improvement over any platter-type drive. XP and Vista were not installed fresh over the SSD, I just laid down an image. That method still worked well.

mgo,

Thanks a lot for your thoughts.

Sorry if this is the wrong board --I can't tell if the x200 tablet inquiries are supposed to posted here or elsewhere.
