reoutfitting a Chinese x41

#1 Post by burepe » Tue Sep 01, 2009 1:43 am

I got a x41 for cheap in China and I would like to reinstall xp in English or Japanese and change the physical keyboard to a Japanese one if possible, so...

1.Can I reinstall xp with all the tablet features and software that is specific for the tablet? If so where can I get those programs?

2. Can you switch out the keyboard? Where could I get a Japanese one?

3. I would like to change the harddrive too if possible. What specs do I need for a new hard drive?

I can read Japanese so I can use the Chinese xp kinda, although installing xp is what I would like to do most. The other things are secondary.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

XP will support multi-language without reinstalling the OS, except the system prompts will be in the native language.

I do a have a few Japanese KBs for sale but for T30, R30, R31.

You may want to try Akihabara as well.

I want the whole operating system to be English (or Japanese). My main question is where can I get all the drivers and tablet specific software and features that came with the comp.

Thanks for the other info!

You'll probably have to order it from levovo.com if you want Japanese R&R disk set. Post WTB/LF note in Marketplace for an English one.

Drivers are mostly language independent.

So you are saying that I can only get windows from lenovo? I can not use a disk I have and get the same functionality?

If you don't mind the Chinese Windows prompts, you can just change the region and language to Japanese. KB is a non-issue for most people.

The WinXP Tablet version distro is different from non-Tablet versions. You can try looking for an English distro in Marketplace and just change the region and language to Japanese after installation if that is easier for you.
