Output 1600x900 in X40?

I have an X40. Its has an Intel 82855GME running XP SP2.

I just got an external monitor that does 1600x900 max. The X40 will allow me to do 1600x1200 but the next lower setting is 1024x768.

Anyone know if I can get this thing to go to 1600x900? Seems ridiculous I can go higher but not lower.

Return the LCD and get one with a resolution that is supported by the system.

The X40 hardware (intel chip) has no problem with 1600x900.
It must be a problem with your drivers. I know I've had trouble getting Win-XP to do that on other PCs.
Widescreen LCDs were not around when XP was written, but you'd think they might have fixed it by now.
Why doesn't windoze allow arbitrary resolutions? It should be automatic, as the LCD reports its details to the computer.

and it worked well for the external display only. the laptop display will not work with it at the same time. So my desktop cannot be extended.
